This is a song I wrote after attending a party on board HMS Dragon that was docked in Portsmouth UK at the time, We were piped aboard and welcomed by the captain then shown around the ship by the purser and plied with canapes, chocolates and champagne before witnessing a sun set ceremony including a member of the crew lowering the ensign flag.
lyrics
(Verse 1)
Dockside promises now failing in the night
Payload drop gate check don’t stumble in low light
Basin blues, dark shadows framing all that might
Grey forms angled menace fire armed for the fight
(Chorus)
Don’t sail away, fail the day , stay
Now battle brand, don’t leave the land today
(Verse 2)
Piper calls the tune, salutes on the gangway
To the captain’s welcome, sharp that uniform’s at play
Missions, past deployments of the company’s at bay
Aboard that killer craft now indestructible and gay
(Chorus)
Don’t sail away, fail the day , stay
Now battle brand, don’t leave the land today
(Bridge)
Purser, guide me round now slip me down into the gloom
View the bridge, the gun deck now relax in the wardroom
Battle operations, watch room, simulates the doom
Leads me to “The Dark Side of the Moon”

(Chorus)
Don’t sail away, fail the day , stay
Now battle brand, don’t leave the land today
(Verse 3)
Champagne canapés now mask those cannon balls
Chocolate handshake clear the deck calm with cold calls
With those smiles and accolades the officers can stall
That formal sunset ceremony where the ensign falls
(Chorus)
Don’t sail away, fail the day , stay
Now battle brand, don’t leave the land today

I write and record songs colaborating with other musicians as noted and work mainly online.
I generally write
the basic structure and lyrics, then allow collaborating musicians to write their parts over the basic structure. This can lead to some interesting and surprising results....more
